“Travelling within [Ethiopia, Rwanda, and Uganda] is for adventurous travellers rather than tourists in large buses. Other travellers we met were from Europe and America and unfortunately none from Australia as it is not on our radar. Most were travelling in small groups of 4, couples like us and single travellers. What is better than travelling by yourselves in your own 4-wheel drive with your personal guide and having the flexibility to maximise the day without being constrained others? What makes this type of travelling successful and stress free is having everything preplanned and booked. For this you need a very good travel agent in Australia who in turn uses a good, reputable local travel company. For this trip we found David at Forward Travel in Australia extremely knowledgeable and helpful, and he in turn uses extremely professional people locally on the ground. Everything worked like clockwork.”

“Rose [from Forward Travel] knows her clients. Because she knows me so well now she can now just make suggestions for destinations I could visit. I trust her advice… And I always do end up loving what she suggests. My daughter-in-law’s parents are farmers from country NSW, and they were visiting China with friends who are orchardists. Rose found orchards for them to visit while there and a local guide who understood the Australian farming culture. Rose knew exactly what to do [when the gold chain was ripped from my neck in Buenos Aires]. I wouldn’t have known to go and report the incident to the police station, but Rose did. This was the proof I needed for my insurance claim. It was just brilliant. While in Yellowknife to see the Northern Lights Rose recommended [I] take an optional extra flight on a seaplane for a picnic on a remote island. We looked out of the seaplane and could see a little brown bear swimming across with her cubs. We landed and clambered out of the plane to see all of this amazing food all laid out. There was a big cask of coffee and a superb morning tea. It was next door to a waterfall and just fabulous. Rose had said we would love it but it seriously exceeded my expectations from what Rose said. It was bloody well worth the money!”

“Forward Travel aren’t your shop front travel agency. It’s a different experience to working with a regular agency. Very little of what we did was part of a package – we were putting together pieces of a puzzle to make our own trip. David’s knowledge and experience of South America were excellent. He has obviously travelled to South America more than once and can talk from first hand experience about what we were planning to do in relation to activities and accommodation. That’s why I was happy to use Forward Travel. I got a lot of value out of Forward Travel in terms of assistance from David and the team. The confidence that I developed through the process that things would be organised well was high and they certainly delivered.”

“David is very personable and he is an easy person to talk to. We didn’t have any qualms that it wasn’t going to be okay. We felt very much at ease. I know he is widely travelled himself. We never felt that he wasn’t capable. It was great to just be able to pop in and see him as we went through our planning. The itinerary that David put together was A-class. It had every single thing in it – the whole works. I’ve never had anything like it, and it was such an advantage to have. You aren’t having to pull out different sheets of paper with different e-tickets. It served us so well. That was the best format I’ve ever seen. The tour company in Ecuador was first class. We had a small hiccup that a restaurant we had booked at for lunch didn’t receive the booking. It wasn’t the guide’s fault at all, but he sorted it out. And then we received a complimentary meal at the hotel on our second last night, paid for by the tour company. The guide was absolutely delightful and so was the driver. They really looked after and cared for us.”
