Zimbabwe is a landlocked southern African nation anchored by the high-altitude Highveld plateau and bounded by two major river systems: the Zambezi to the north and the Limpopo to the south. It contains the largest share of Victoria Falls’ viewing vantage points and is home to the most extensive stone architecture in sub-Saharan Africa outside of the Nile Valley. Zimbabwe is characterised by exceptionally high conservation standards, maintaining large, unfenced wildlife reserves and a highly rigorous licensing system for its professional safari guides.
Discover Zimbabwe
The northwest corner is anchored by Victoria Falls, where the Zambezi River meets the Batoka Gorge. The Zimbabwean side features a continuous path through a localised cloud forest sustained entirely by the waterfall’s permanent spray. This vantage point provides clear, direct views of the Main Falls, Horseshoe Falls, and the volatile boiling pot where the river compresses into a narrow zig-zagging basalt canyon.
In the southern interior lies Great Zimbabwe, the archaeological namesake of the modern nation. The site is divided into three distinct architectural groups: the Hill Complex, the Valley Enclosures, and the Great Enclosure. The Great Enclosure features an outer wall measuring up to 11 metres high and 250 metres long, showcasing advanced pre-colonial stone masonry engineered to stand purely through gravity and precise stone placement.

To the north, the landscape drops into the Zambezi Valley at Mana Pools National Park. The park’s signature albida trees drop protein-rich pods during the dry season, attracting elephants that famously stand on their hind legs to reach the upper branches. Because the environment offers high visibility across the open floodplains, it functions as a global baseline for legal, self-guided and expert-guided tracking on foot.
