Gabon is a Central African coastal nation located directly on the equator, recognised as the ecological heart of the Congo Basin. Often described as “Africa’s Last Eden,” over 88% of its landmass is covered by pristine, primary tropical rainforest, the highest percentage of forest cover of any nation on the continent. By converting 11% of its entire territory into a network of 13 interconnected national parks in 2002, Gabon created a strictly protected biological sanctuary where equatorial jungle ecosystem directly terminates into an uncommercialised 885-kilometre Atlantic coastline.
Discover Gabon
The coastal crown jewel of Gabon is Loango National Park, a landscape composed of dense rainforests, freshwater lagoons, open savannas, and deserted ocean beaches. Because there is no human settlement or industrial footprint along this corridor, large mammals move freely between the interior forest and the beach. It is a common occurrence to spot family groups of forest elephants foraging along the coastline or pods of hippos playing in the ocean waves.
In the interior, Lopé National Park marks the transition zone where the Ogooué River valley cuts through savannas and rainforests. Lopé is a critical evolutionary interface, preserving evidence of continuous human occupation dating back 400,000 years alongside its legendary mandrill populations. Tracking these massive troops requires moving silently through dense undergrowth, guided by the deep, resonant vocalisations of dominant alpha males.

Let’s do it! Perhaps you already know what you want to see and do, perhaps you don’t. Either way, we’ll create the best Gabon tour for you.
Continue your journey with more carefully curated destinations, each offering its own unique experiences, culture, and unforgettable moments.
Further east lies Ivindo National Park, an exceptionally isolated wilderness centred around the blackwater Ivindo River. The park is famous for Langoué Bai, a massive 12.5-hectare forest clearing rich in mineral salts that attracts western lowland gorillas, sitatungas, and forest elephants daily. Ivindo also protects the massive, multi-tiered Kongou and Mingouli Waterfalls, which force massive river volumes through pristine, choked jungle canyons.
