Best Time to Travel: June–September

Kyrgyzstan is the most mountainous nation in Central Asia, with 94% of its territory covered by the Tian Shan and Pamir-Alai ranges. It is the global centre of Community-Based Tourism (CBT), a unique model where travellers stay directly with nomadic families in high-altitude summer pastures (jailoos). Kyrgyzstan’s identity is defined by this nomadic culture where horse-based sports, eagle hunting, and yurt-building are daily realities.
Discover Kyrgyzstan
The Celestial Mountains cover 90% of Kyrgyzstan, with the range peaking at the 7,439-metre Jengish Chokusu. Routes from Bishkek to Naryn ascend through the 3,586-metre Too-Ashuu Pass, transitioning from semi-arid steppe to glacial valleys. This rugged terrain contains over 6,500 glaciers and provides a critical habitat for the endangered snow leopard and the Tian Shan brown bear.
At 1,607 metres, Issyk-Kul is the world’s second-largest alpine lake, reaching depths of 668 metres. Its high salinity and geothermal heat prevent freezing despite winter temperatures of -25°C. In the eastern hub of Karakol, 19th-century architecture includes a wooden Dungan Mosque built without nails and a green-roofed Orthodox Cathedral, reflecting the city’s role as a multi-ethnic Silk Road outpost.

Let’s do it! Perhaps you already know what you want to see and do, perhaps you don’t. Either way, we’ll create the best Kyrgyzstan tour for you.
Continue your journey with more carefully curated destinations, each offering its own unique experiences, culture, and unforgettable moments.
Each June, herders migrate to jailoos (summer pastures) like Song-Kul, an alpine basin at 3,016 metres. Here, travellers stay in felt yurts and participate in nomadic life, from drinking kumis (fermented mare’s milk) to witnessing Kok-Boru (horseback polo). In the Bokonbayevo region, Berkutchi hunters maintain the 1,000-year-old tradition of hunting foxes and hares with trained golden eagles.
