Best Time to Travel: Spring (April–June) & Autumn (September–November)

5,000 years of history are packed into one of the world’s smallest countries. Lebanon is where you can visit the world’s largest Roman temple at Baalbek and ski on Mount Lebanon. From the Phoenician harbour of Byblos and the 2,000-year-old Cedar forests to the cliff-hung monasteries of the Qadisha Valley and the reconstructed boulevards of Beirut, Lebanon has a mix of Ottoman, French, and Levantine heritage.
Discover Lebanon
Beirut’s downtown core features the Place de l’Étoile, where 1920s French-mandate architecture sits atop a Roman colonnaded street. The National Museum houses the world’s most significant collection of Phoenician sarcophagi, while the Gemmayzeh district preserves 19th-century Levantine mansions and Staircase of the Arts, now the centre of the city’s independent gallery and cafe scene.
Located in the Bekaa Valley, Baalbek features the Temple of Jupiter, supported by six 22-metre-high columns—the tallest in the Roman world. The adjacent Temple of Bacchus remains structurally intact, retaining its ornate stone carvings of lions and bulls. These monuments sit atop a megalithic platform containing the Trilithon, three foundation stones weighing 800 tonnes each.

The Cedars of God grove near Bsharri contains some of Lebanon’s oldest Cedrus libani, with some trees estimated to be over 2,000 years old. This high-altitude sanctuary overlooks the Qadisha Valley, a UNESCO-listed gorge where the Monastery of Qozhaya is built into the limestone rock. The region remains the centre of Lebanon’s winter sports, with slopes reaching an altitude of 2,800 metres.
