Bolivia is South America’s most geographically isolated nation, featuring the highest percentage of indigenous population on the continent, primarily Quechua and Aymara. It contains the Salar de Uyuni, the world’s largest salt flat, which spans over 10,000 square kilometres and contains roughly 70% of the planet’s known lithium reserves. Defined by extreme shifts in altitude, Bolivia drops from 6,000-metre Andean peaks down to the roadless floodplains of the Amazon Basin, bypassing coastal development entirely.
