Best Time to Travel: December–March & June–September

Colombia is the second most biodiverse country on Earth and the only nation in South America with coastlines on both the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. It has a unique geographic layout where the Andes range splits into three distinct cordilleras, isolating microclimates that produce 10% of the planet’s species. Defined by the transition from the Amazon rainforest to the highest coastal mountain range in the world, Colombia pairs vast ecological systems with a rapid 21st-century urban renaissance.
Discover Colombia
Bogotá’s historic core pairs 16th-century Spanish architecture with the 34,000 pre-Hispanic gold pieces of the Museo del Oro, which highlights the intricate Muisca Golden Raft (600–1600 CE). In the cobblestone lanes of La Candelaria, red-tiled eaves shelter modern street murals, while the central Plaza de Bolívar is anchored by the Cathedral Primada, a neoclassical landmark constructed with local sandstone and marble.
Medellín’s Aburrá Valley features an urban network integrated by the Metrocable’s K and J lines, which link hillside communities to the city’s metro grid. Plaza Botero displays 23 monumental bronze sculptures donated by Fernando Botero, standing before the black-and-white Gothic facade of the Rafael Uribe Palace. Nearby, Comuna 13 utilises a system of outdoor electric escalators rising 384 metres past neighbourhood street-art galleries.

The Eje Cafetero produces premium washed Arabica beans across steep Andean volcanic slopes. In Salento, 19th-century Paisa architecture is preserved through brightly painted bahareque (bamboo and mud) houses. This town acts as the gateway to the Cocora Valley, where endangered Quindío wax palms rise 60 metres over family-run haciendas that maintain 150-year-old traditional hand-harvesting and processing methods.
