Best Time to Travel: Peak (June–August) & Shoulder (May–September)

Albania lies between the Adriatic and Ionian Seas. After decades of isolation, its archaeology, landscapes, and hospitality remain refreshingly accessible and less commercial than neighbouring regions. Travel to Albania and explore its Adriatic beaches, Ottoman towns, and mountain landscapes. Visit the UNESCO sites of Gjirokastër and Berat, hike in the Albanian Alps, and swim in the waters of the Ionian coast.
Discover Albania
These UNESCO-listed Ottoman towns preserve stone-roofed houses, cobbled streets, and 18th-century mosques and churches. Berat’s whitewashed houses climb the hillside beneath its castle, while Gjirokaster’s fortress overlooks the Drino Valley.
Located near Sarande, Butrint was a Greek colony in the 8th century BCE, later a Roman city, and finally a Byzantine settlement. Visitors can see the amphitheatre, baths, basilica, and Venetian fortifications surrounded by wetlands and olive groves.
The Accursed Mountains in northern Albania are prime terrain for long-distance hiking in Europe. Trails, such as Theth to Valbone pass through glacial valleys, traditional stone villages, and alpine meadows accessible from Shkoder.
