Best Time to Travel: Late Spring (May–June) & Early Autumn (September–October)

North Macedonia links the Mediterranean and continental worlds of the Balkans. Compact and easily navigable, it combines Byzantine heritage, Ottoman architecture, and highland landscapes. Explore lakeside monasteries, bazaars, and mountain trails. Visit UNESCO-listed Lake Ohrid, walk Skopje’s stone bridge, and hike through the Sar Mountains or Mavrovo National Park.
Discover North Macedonia
The capital showcases history and modern life around the River Vardar. Landmarks include the 15th-century Stone Bridge, the Old Bazaar, and the 6th-century Kale Fortress. The nearby Memorial House of Mother Teresa honours the city’s most famous native.
UNESCO-listed Lake Ohrid is among Europe’s oldest and deepest natural lakes. Its shoreline features Byzantine churches such as St. John at Kaneo and the 10th-century Monastery of Saint Naum, known for hand-painted frescoes and springs feeding the lake
Covering 730 square kilometres in the country’s west, Mavrovo has beech forests, alpine meadows, and peaks exceeding 2,700 metres. It is home to lynx, bears, and wolves. Trails link to Saint Jovan Bigorski Monastery, famous for its wood-carved iconostasis.
