Best Time to Travel: Late Spring (May–June) & Late Summer to Early Autumn (August–September)

Romania combines Gothic, Byzantine, and rural traditions shaped by Dacian, Roman, and Austro-Hungarian heritage. From Saxon villages to Orthodox monasteries, the country’s story is visible in architecture, craftsmanship, and its enduring relationship with landscape. Explore 14th-century fortified towns, step into 17th-century wooden churches, and drive across the Carpathian Mountains. Visit Transylvania’s castles, painted monasteries in Bucovina, and the Danube Delta’s wildlife channels.
Discover Romania
Founded by Saxon settlers in the 12th century, Transylvania’s towns (including Brasov, Sibiu, and Sighisoara) feature defensive walls, merchant houses, and watchtowers. Sighisoara’s citadel, built between the 14th and 16th centuries, remains one of Europe’s best-preserved medieval walled towns.
Bran Castle (completed 1388) stands on a rocky ridge between Transylvania and Wallachia. Though often linked to the Dracula legend, it was a royal customs post. Corvin Castle, begun in 1446, is a Gothic stronghold built by the Hungarian noble John Hunyadi, complete with drawbridge and frescoed halls.
Romania’s Southern Carpathians, including Piatra Craiului and Fagaras ranges, offer marked trails and views from peaks exceeding 2,500 m. The Transfagarasan Highway, completed in 1974, crosses alpine passes with access to Balea Lake and Balea Glacier.
